Life is weird right now, to say the least. Whatever your current status is – quarantined, working from home, working the front lines, etc – you probably need a little pick-me-up, something to take your mind off of everything horrible in the world. Although I don’t have anything inspiring to share (my brain is mush) I do have recipes and some fun things to do to escape (mentally not physically, sorry).
Here are a few things that I recommend for vegging out and letting your brain turn off…
Find a Good Docuseries to Binge
I know, I know, you have already heard this from a million people, but seriously, Tiger King. It is on Netflix and so worth it. It has everything. Tigers. Cults. Meth. Murder? Once you are done with the docuseries, check out the podcast by Wondery.
Or try McMillions on HBO. Another great one with so many facets. Mobs. McDonald’s. Monopoly.
Check the Batteries in Your Smoke Detector
Probably the most boring thing to do but really when else are you going to do it? Maybe also check on other house things like see if your fire extinguisher is expired (or maybe order one if you don’t have one) or do your taxes. All of those super annoying grown up things you never want to do, now is the time to do them, and maybe treat yourself to a cocktail or some chocolate after (or during).
Find a Good Sitcom to Binge
Two of my favorites, that really help me veg out completely are Brooklyn 99 and Happy Endings. Both are available on Hulu and both are hilarious. Sometimes it is nice to watch a docuseries but have something light to watch in between, these are great for that or just to watch on their own for hours.
Read Harry Potter
Or any other really good book series from the beginning. I normally read a lot of true crime but right now that just feels too heavy. Nothing like escaping to Hogwarts.
Have a Dance Party
Always a good idea but right now it is extra cathartic. Sometimes we just do a dance party, sometimes I will do an actual Zumba class, either way, it is a great way to get crazy and work off all that anxious energy.
Popcorn
It literally works with any of the above activities OR on its own. Here is a favorite recipe of mine.
