Warning, this is some serious cookie dough talk, if you don’t like cookie dough then just stop reading now. Either live an unfulfilling life without this amazingness OR skip to the bottom, make this recipe, and then come back and tell me your life isn’t changed.

Cookie dough. Where do I even begin?!? Let’s start at the beginning. I have always, and I mean ALWAYS, been the kid sneaking a taste (or just straight up faceplanting into) the cookie dough. It doesn’t matter what type of cookies are being made or how many times I am told I could get salmonella, it is just too good, and I guess I like to live on the edge. Also, if I am going to be real here when I am baking cookies I need to test the dough, throughout the process, to make sure the dough has enough of everything. Meaning, I need to know after each step that I didn’t screw up (like forgetting the salt or vanilla or something).

You might be wondering, where am I going with all of this? Well, friends, I have found the ultimate eggless, salmonella-free, cookie dough recipe. This tastes just like the regular cookie dough that you bake with but with a few substitutions. Let me tell you, it is off the wall. Like, a party in your mouth, diet starts never, slip into a food coma, good. I did not invent this amazing concoction, but I think I improved it a bit, and I plan to come back to it to try some different combos (thinking a chocolate base, different candies, molasses base, the possibilities are endless).

What I love about this recipe is that it isn’t a cookie dough “dip”. It didn’t replace the eggs with cream cheese or Greek yogurt, or something like that. No, it substituted peanut butter and applesauce. PEANUT BUTTER! APPLESAUCE! Why didn’t I think of that??

It should be noted that I have only ever eaten this as-is, I have never baked these into cookies so I don’t know how they would turn out. If you want to try to bake a few, let me know how it goes!
